Our story

A trout shaped
by Jiri.

Jiri Pink Trout is premium rainbow trout raised by Jiri Tea & Trout Farm, a family business established in 2012.

The farm sits at approximately 1,900 metres, where naturally cold water from Lauti Jharana flows continuously through the ponds. Responsible farming and knowledge shared by a Japanese trout specialist guide the way we care for the fish, protect the water and handle every pack.

Why Jiri

Quality begins
with place.

The mountain town that shapes every fish we raise.

A place shaped by mountain life

More than where our trout is raised.

Jiri is known for its green valleys, forested hills, waterfalls, cool climate and peaceful rural landscape.

Before flights to Lukla became common, Jiri was a starting point for journeys into the Everest region. Its water, climate, farming traditions and community continue to shape the identity of the town today.

The trout is the result of the place, the water and the people who care for it.

What Jiri gives our trout

Nature sets
the standard.

01

High altitude

At around 1,900 metres above sea level, Jiri’s cooler mountain climate naturally suits rainbow trout. Lower water temperatures help the fish remain active while supporting the steady, controlled growth needed for good texture and quality.

02

Flowing spring water

Water from Lauti Jharana flows continuously through the farm ponds instead of remaining still. This movement helps renew the water and maintain oxygen levels, both of which are important for healthy fish and consistent pond conditions.

03

Patient farming

The trout is raised for approximately 14 to 16 months rather than being pushed through a shorter production cycle. The team adjusts daily care to the season, water conditions and behaviour of the fish, allowing development to happen at a measured pace.

04

Local knowledge

Daily farm care is supported by people who understand Jiri’s climate, water and changing seasons. The farm also creates practical employment and hands on learning in pond care, cleaning, packing and supply for people from Jiri and nearby communities.

    Spring Water

Cold water from Lauti Jharana flows continuously through the farm ponds, helping keep the water fresh and well oxygenated. The team watches the flow throughout the day because steady water conditions are essential for healthy trout.

  2. 02

    Pond Care

The team checks water flow, pond cleanliness, fish behaviour and development throughout the growth cycle. Regular observation helps the farm respond early when conditions change and keeps daily care consistent.

  3. 03

    Trout Nutrition

Feed made specifically for trout provides balanced nutrition for steady development and naturally pink flesh. Feeding is managed carefully according to the fish and water conditions, and steroids are not used to promote growth.

  4. 04

    Slow Growth

Each trout is given approximately 14 to 16 months to develop at the farm’s natural pace. This patient cycle supports the firm texture, delicate flavour and dependable quality customers expect from Jiri Pink Trout.

  5. 05

    Careful Packing

After harvest, every fish is cleaned twice, visually inspected and weighed before it is vacuum packed. It is then frozen and kept in the cold chain so the quality created at the farm is protected on its way to the customer.

Inside the farmDaily fish health assessment

The farm team observes the trout closely, looking at their movement, condition and response within the pond. This regular assessment helps the team understand the fish and maintain consistent daily care.

When purpose is rooted in home, even the mountains become a place of possibility.

A family vision rooted in Jiri

A vision that
found its way home.

What began as a family farm has grown into a clear purpose: to share exceptional mountain trout while creating meaningful work in the place the family calls home.

Guidance from a Japanese trout specialist and years of practical learning strengthened the farm’s approach to fish health, nutrition, hygiene and handling. Today, that knowledge supports a premium Nepali food brand shaped by careful work and a lasting commitment to Jiri.

The purpose behind the work

As the farm grows,
Jiri grows.

The vision is not only to raise excellent trout. It is to build lasting skills and opportunity in the place the family calls home.

People from Jiri and nearby communities gain practical experience in fish farming, cleaning, packing, cold chain handling, logistics and market supply. The same care that protects product quality also supports local livelihoods and builds greater trust in food produced in Nepal.

  • Responsible mountain aquaculture
  • Safe and consistent food quality
  • Local jobs and practical training

Knowledge centre

Good questions.
Clear answers.

01What is included in one packet?

Each packet weighs between 800 grams and 1 kilogram and contains three whole trout, cleaned twice inside and prepared for convenient cooking. The exact weight varies naturally, so our team confirms it when your order is prepared.

02Is Jiri Pink Trout available throughout the year?

Yes. The product is available throughout the year, subject to current farm and delivery stock. For larger household, restaurant or retail orders, contacting the team in advance helps us prepare the required quantity carefully.

03Why is the trout pink?

The pink colour develops gradually through carotenoids, including astaxanthin, in feed made specifically for trout. These nutrients are absorbed as the fish grows. It is not artificial dye or chemical colouring, and the exact shade may vary slightly between fish.

04Is Jiri Pink Trout salmon?

No. Jiri Pink Trout is premium rainbow trout. Trout and salmon belong to the same Salmonidae family, which is why they share some similarities in appearance, texture and nutritional value. Rainbow trout remains a distinct fish with its own delicate flavour.

05How should I store and prepare it?

Keep the sealed packet frozen until you are ready to use it. For the best taste, enjoy it within six months of freezing. Allow the fish to soften gradually while the packet remains sealed and chilled, then prepare and cook it promptly.

06How does home delivery work?

Home delivery is available in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur through delivery services such as Pathao and inDrive. Delivery is free for orders above 10 kilograms. For smaller orders, the team confirms the delivery arrangement and charge before dispatch.

07Can restaurants and retailers order in volume?

Yes. We welcome regular and bulk enquiries from hotels, restaurants, retailers and distributors. Our team can discuss quantity, pack requirements, delivery timing and cold chain arrangements according to the needs of each business.
